Finally some relief from summer

Posted by in Running

As the heat has finally subsided for a few days I went for my first morning run today since summer began. 35 minutes nice easy pace 20 push-ups rotating wide, standard and narrow every 5 minutes using the lap counter on my watch just to make it interesting. I sort of started doing this in the spring as I’m more interested in overall fitness rather than how far can I go and how fast can I get there. I just can’t do distances like I used to my knees will…read more

Turf and Surf

Posted by in Running, Surf

Good early start on the run today was out before 8 so it wasn’t too hot yet. Took The Cooper let him run in any of the muck or water we passed along the way to help him keep cool and get some water periodically. Strong focus today on keeping the heart rate down so almost a shuffle pace to work on duration and distance. We were able to cover about 7.5 miles with a little bit of walking mostly because I worry about him any distance over 6 miles….read more

Run – July 16

In somewhat of a funk today have felt tired all day. Very hot lunch run with The Cooper who wasn’t really into it either – he kept giving me that look – anyone who runs with a dog regularly knows that look that are we home yet look. Tried to add a half mile by taking a different route and instead cut it short. I remember a time when if I had run 2.75 miles I wouldn’t have logged it Some big changes coming soon so am a bit distracted…read more

Run – Friday the 13th

Posted by in Running

Its just now occurred to me that its Friday the 13th. Joy. As was expected I took yesterday off from running and went surfing instead. Nice little knee-waist high waves early evening is always a special treat. I start work too early to go in the AM so my only opportunities come in the evening. Forecast for the weekend is water water and more water. Good run with The Cooper tonight our goal was 40ish minutes to get the time up a little bit went near 4 mile winding neighborhood…read more

Different training partner today gave The Cooper a break and took Eli instead…Nice mostly cloudy day keeps temp down a bit very comfortable run though for the first time tried to push just a little bit and didn’t go so well. Hamstring is a little tight. Taking tomorrow off and going to surf instead IF there’s so much as a ripple [runners_log_basic]

Runnin ‘n Ruffin

Posted by in Running

Another good lunch run today – still a pretty slow place as I’m just getting back at it of course its hard to stay in rhythym when The Cooper has to pee on every single stop sign he see’s Today’s music note I think its sad that much of David Ruffin’s solo work never makes it into Pandora being overshadowed by that other famous group he was part of. At least there’s Rhapsody. [runners_log_basic]

First race of 2009 – Matanzas 5000 – PR

Posted by in Running

Its funny to me to say race because my main competitor is myself and the clock but it gets the job done. My primary goal for this race was a sub 24 minute 5k in order to get a top 2000 number for the upcoming (March 14th) Gate River Run. My time was 21:55. That is actually 3 seconds faster than my previous PR of 21:58. When I ran the 21:58 I was 23 pounds lighter (presently 186) so that should be a small hint at my present running fitness….read more
